This Empire console from the early 19th century is made of solid cherry and shows the structural rigour of the Empire style: two columns at the front with bronze capitals, two posts behind them and a curved plinth stretcher connecting all four legs. The polished cherry surface has a warm, deep sheen. A drawer with an oval bronze knob offers discreet storage without interrupting the clean front of this Empire piece.
At 100 cm wide and 81 cm high, this console is both a wall piece and an accent in the room. Placed in an entrance hall or hallway, it takes up very little depth. Used in a salon or dining room as a credenza or serving surface, the Empire column console brings a touch of the Napoleonic era into the room.
The bronze mounts on the column capitals and plinth stretcher are true to the original, and the wood surface shows no significant damage. This French Empire console table in solid cherry is in excellent condition and ready for immediate use.
