ad-799
1930s Bauhaus Chair with Armrests by Mart Stam

This Bauhaus chair with armrests, after a design by Mart Stam, dates from the 1930s and was made in Czechoslovakia. The chrome-plated steel tube frame is executed as a cantilever and carries a seat and backrest of moulded plywood finished in high-gloss white lacquer. The armrests are likewise fitted with white lacquered wooden rests. The contrast between the cool chrome sheen and the smooth white lacquer gives the chair a clear, graphic presence. At 52 cm wide with a seat height of 45 cm, the steel tube chair works as a dining chair as well as a desk chair in the study. The springy cantilever runner provides pleasant seating comfort, whilst the armrests offer support during longer sittings. In a period flat this Bauhaus cantilever chair sets a modern accent; in pared-back interiors it blends in calmly. It is in excellent condition, with chrome and lacquer well kept.
